Question 68 Steering column

I just tore down my 68 steering column for restoration and noticed that the little plastic shear pins are still good. I'm planning on converting to a R&P steering but most of the kits replace the lower inner steering shaft. Will everything work if I shear those pins and install a converted lower shaft?
