headers with stock exhuast?

im thinking about headers for my stock 87' 2.3L... is it even worth it to put headers on a stock exhuast system? the cat. has been removed, but the pipe and muffler are stock. if so can i get some suggestions on which type headers i should go for?

i wouldnt unless the head has been modified. you will lose any low end torque(not like the 2.3 has much to begin with) and move it towards the upper rpm range. you are changing the velocity of the exhaust gases and slowing them down. my opinion is no.

well im also gonna mill the head to get more compression. if that makes any difference?

that will make a difference. depends how much you are taking off. and if you do shave the head, make sure to check valve to piston clearence. as for headers for the shaved head, i would have to say no.

i was thinking. i dont really know much about the 2.3 on the performace end. i dont know how efficient the stock manifold is either. maybe you should call Racer Walsh. they can help you on your 2.3
