Post Stock shifter/ shift lever- Hurst linkage??

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to mate a stock shift lever/shifter with a Hurst linkage/shifter setup. I have a 65 K code with the original toploader tranny, shifter and linkage. Even after properly adjusting the linkage to factory specs, the shifting is still somewhat sloppy and vague. I would love to go with the feel of Hurst components but keep the look of the stock lever,as the car is 99% original. Any ideas??
