Default straight six performance

if i am to bolt up a 3 speed to my 65 straght six engine is there a chance that it will improve my performance how hard is it to drop a clutch in. Also if i put a holley 2 barrel on my engine would i still be able to close down the hood with the air breather on.

so far the information that i have recieve from this board has helped me out a great deal. And to all the the people that have answered my threads, I appreciate your time and responses

Thank You
