Stroking 289 Blocks

Is it possible to use a 331 stroker kit in a 289 block. Thanks, Bob.

Bob
The 289 and 302 use virtually the same block. There has been some arguement as to whether the 302 has longer bores or not but other than that(if they are different and not by much if they are) they are identical so a stroker kit for a 302 should work with a 289 block.

I have read that a 289 block is suppost to be better because they have a higher nickel content and are therefore stronger, but it is not necessary. the 302 blocks are the same and it doesn't matter which you use. It may be easier to find a 302 block to use for the stroker and would probably be a little cheaper. Hope this helps, shawn

I heard that 289 was not a good candidate for
the 347 stroker. I guess the cylinder doesn't
support the piston well enough on the bottom of the stroke. You may be OK with a 331 stroker, I'm sure one of the stroker companys
could tell you for sure.
