Question Strut rod bushing replacement

Hi all. Does anyone know of an easy way remove strut rod bushings for replacement? The shop manual says to pry on the washer to separate them, but that didn't seem to work. My car is a '71 if that makes a difference. Of course I can go back and try harder. Thanks for any help you can offer.
