Post T-5 transmission--- gear lube or not?

I've got a 69 Mustang that I'm having a T-5 worldclass transmission put in. The mechanics that are doing it put regular transmission fluid in it. I thought all manual transmissions needed gear lube. Are the mechanics that are doing the job smoking crack or not? Please advise. They told me it took regular trnsmission fluid.

Thanks for the info Thunderbolt. Does it have a filter on it like an automatic. How often should I change the fluid.
