T5 in a 65

What gears should I put when I switch a T5. I was intending to use a 3 speed automatic with a 350 locker; but I am leaning toward using a T5 that is just sitting on the floor of my garage. My brother insists the T5 will be much more streetable and fun to drive. Will the 350 locker still be the best choice or will the T5's wider range of gears acomodate some quicker rearend gears. Keep in mind I drive about 20 highway miles each way to work and back.

I would go with atleast a 3.73. With the .67 5th gear, you will not even feel the 3.73's. Your cruising rpms depending on your tire hfight should be around 1700-1800rpms. Your gas milage will still be very good, with the fun of the 3.73. Actually, your gas milage will be better than with a 3.50 3 speed auto. You could even go with a lower gear and still have better gas milage when you use a 5 speed.

I am currently running a 3.50 gear in my 66 with a Tremec (5th is same as T-5).

This is a nice gear for either a lot of freeway driving or a mellow motor.

I plan to get a set of 4.11s very soon as my setup isn't exactly mellow. 3.73s are a great gear too, probadly the best for your setup

perhaps you guys can tell me what my stock gears are in my 68, 3spd, 289-2v???
I have my T-5 in... just kinda curious what I have in the back so I can decide if I want to swap it out and what I want to swap it with.

There were several ratios offered. You can use a decoder to determine your ratio. Find one in a parts catalog that covers your year. Or have someone spin the imput shaft and count the revolutions to make the wheels spin once.

Can you tell me what rpm you run at 55? If you know your tire height I can be more accurate at telling you your rearend gear.

Most mustangs came with the 2.80 gear.
If you no longer have the data plate on your door (which tells your original gear) then tell us your RPM at a given speed and the height of your tires.

The plate is still there, I will get back to you by this weekend when I get home and have a chance to check it.
