Too Cool??
Got my new autometer gauges installed and took car for drive to see what temp it runs at i was surprized to see it wasn't even running 180 in hottest part of the day. was around 176-178 even when stopped at a light wouldn't budge from there. could my thermostat be stuck open or possibly not there at all?? car does have a fairly new radiator and is full of coolant and isn't losing any. it's either that or gauge might be sticking, it take a while for it to read any temp and then it jump from the 120 mark to around 140-160 within 10 second or so.

you have a 180 thermo i assume? you'll probably need to put in a new one, what brand is it? we decided recently in another post that some brand is crap, i forget the name but its the most common kind.

could be the thermostat, some have a hole or more than one hole around the ring for constant air bleed and to help keep it about 5-10 percent cooler than stamped . kind of a safety margin .

I believe the brand name that was inferior was " Stant ". I have laways had good luck with the Motorcraft brand, although they are probably made by the same company.

I also have the autometer temp. Where did you plug into the intake. I kept my factory gauge and installed the auto gauge to the back of the intake. It seems to run a little cooler back there for some reason. My stang loves running at 180.

I'm not sure what thermostat is there or if there is one there. i have my temp sesor in the front of ther intake where the stock one is located i just unplugged the wiring. from what i heard the back location will show a lower temp than the front. i'm gonna just pull the housing and check and if i need to will put a 180 thermostat in there.
