Question 289 to 351 swap

Has anyone done this? What am I going to need to change to complete this swap? My car currently is a 1968 Coupe with a 289 2v and c4. I might even change to a t-5 but who knows. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? Thanks!!

I guess it depends on which 351 you want to put in. A 351W will go in with mods to the exhaust the only setback, but a 351C will require lots of modifications. I guess more info is needed to answer your question.

I always try to think of all the info I need to post before I post but I'm not too good at it. A 351W.

Thumbs up

This site has an article on swapping a 351W into a '65-'66 mustang. Take a look at their how to's section. They also have the t-5 swap.

THE 351W WILL FALL IN YOUR 68. IN 67 THE MUSTANGS ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS WIDER THAN 64-66 TO HANDLE THE BIG BLOCK FE MOTORS.THE ONLY PROBLEM MIGHT BE THE FLYWHEEL.THERE ARE 3 SIZES OF FLYWHEELS THAT I KNOW OF.ONE WAS USED FOR V8 MUSTANG II'S (WHICH IS THE SMALLIST)THE NEXT SIZE IS USUALLY FOUND IN CARS LIKE YOURS AND THE BIGGEST IS USUALLY FOUND IN BIGGER CARS AND TRUCKS.I THINK YOU CAN SWAP THE FLYWHEELS IF YOU NEED TO I THINK THEY ARE THE SAME BALANCE.SO IF YOUR CAR HAS A SMALL BELL C4 USE THE 289 FLYWHEEL IF IT HAS THE BIG BELL USE THE WINDSOR FLYWHEEL. YOULL BE ABLE TO TELL WHEN YOU PULL THE 289.IF YOUR USING STOCK MANIFOLDS THE EXHAUST WILL PROBABLY BOLT UP. IF NOT JUST THE DOWN PIPES WILL NEED TO BE LENGTHEND. THE ONLY OUTSIDE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN THE 289 AND THE WINDSOR IS HIGHT OF THE BLOCK WICH IN TURN ALSO MAKES IT WIDER.LET US KNOW IF YOU FIND SOMETHING IN THE SWAP IM NOT AWARE OF. I LIKE TO LEARN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ABOUT ALL FORDS!!!

If you can put a 514 in a 68, you can certainly drop in a 351. I think someone said it will fall in. They are right. Plenty of room.
