Default transmission selections

Ok guys a tough decision i have a t18 sitting here and had a t5-5 given to me out of a formally running but now totalled car and have option to buy a tremec ( but a bit pricy ). How would each be practical use and how bad are conversion cost and would it be an easy change over to go to the t5 or should i go the extra bucks and spring for the tremec and bite the bullet on budget.

car will be a daily driver into the 66 stang with a 1979 302 with mild modification. so i wont worry about showing it as anything but modified daily driver.

I am starting with a 79 302 with dura spark ignition and have both 2bbl and a soso 4 bbl set up for it, first of i am updateing the duraspark to a more reliable control box - switching cams to a bit more agressive cam 284/296 .541/.544 lift hydraulic cam- pete jackson gear drive versus timing chain. 9.3:1 pistons. some intake and 4 bbl carb changes as budget allows. tri-y headers and dual exhaust. i do plan to beef up frame with rail extension and some minor suspension goodies as i go and have the extra cash also but being widower and keeping house over head for mom and myself does limit some what i can fork out on day to day for parts as i rebuild this 66 to a nice driver/sleeper

so i have to weight cost versus durability cause of a mildly limited budget so with stuff i am doing to engine which is not over done on mass power any suggestion which route would be more feasable and sound to go with.

so is the t5 and good route to take or for go some extra goodies for now and grab the termec and get the extra engine stuff as money dictates.
