Default Throttle response

Ive noticed that my car doesent seem to respond too quickly from idle, once its going, it winds up nicely, but what can I do to crispen up the bottom end? I dont know much (read: anything) about tuning carbs, any tips/tricks would be apprecialted. Also, anything elsewhere that I could do to get better response from my motor? I've been considering going with an MSD ignition/coil. Any noticable difference?

Thanks,
J

Cool

first set your initial ignition timing at 10-14 degrees before top dead center as this alone will give good throttle response. as fort he carb you can install a larger pump shooter, where the fuel comes out when you hit the throttle. go up one step at a time on this as you dont want to lose the off idle throttle response.

Rear axle ratio has largest effect on starting performance. What is your rear axle ratio?

Default accelerator pump function

First make sure you get an immediate and prolonged squirt from the accelerator pump. Try different accelerator pump cams and make sure the linkage is adjusted correctly. The pump diaphram also needs to be in good shape.

After all that, if still sluggish off idle response, you can go to a larger accelerator pump or different squirter nozzles (not likely needed).

Thanks all,
I have to check the timing on it, I need to get a decent gun first tho.
I dont know what the rear has, I wanted to get it up on the jack stands this weekend and try to figure it out, but didnt get a chance.
Rev, I gotta admit, carbs arent my specialty, I may have to have a pro check that out. (its a phobia, kinda like that dark and arcane art of auto transmissions)
Actually, I just need to get the holly book and give it a try, but I dont want to risk screwing something up

Thanks again
