![]() I got too hot recently waiting in line to enter a car show. It was 90+ degrees and I was not the only one, but I would like to upgrade my cooling system. My 65 coupe is mostly stock, so I would like to continue that way, but don't necessarily have to.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know if these cars came with fan shrouds? A few suggestions that I have already heard are to put a fan on the front of the radiator (on the top half), get an alum. radiator and install a fan shroud. Thanks!

![]() A shroud would definatly help, I know my '66 has one from the factory, yours should too, I imagine.
Have you " tuned up" the coolant system lately to get the most out of the stock setup? i.e. Full flush, check for any radiator blockages/corrosion, maybe a new thermostat, correct proportions for antifreeze/water? If you're still running hot after that, then I would start thinking mods (new rad. elec fan etc) I dont know how older stangs react to this , but some of the later models can be run with a cooler tstat too. Just some general ideas, J

![]() I have a 160 thermostat in mine, but it does not get driven in the winter or colder months. I was always told that with older ford head designs, the engine to run's better at cooler temps when compared to a chevy style head. Mine runs great on the 160, so I would tend to agree with them.

![]() Have you tried using a Gano filter?
![]() I installed one in my 65( all stock) a few years ago after having my rad cleaned out , new hoses ect. But have never used the factory shroud.After the initial install I ran her and checked the trap after about an hour of driving or so. I then checked it once every other week for a month or so and got loads of fust out of my system.
