Tracking down info by VIN

Can someone tell me how you go about researching information on a particular Mustang if you have the VIN? Or generally the way to get a particular vehicles history? This is obviously something one once to do if they are interested in purchasing a classic Mustang.

If you search dogpile or google, just look for "mustang VIN decoder" or "ford vin decoder" theres lots of them online.
