Post Traction-Lock...What to use as friction modifier?

Recently had my 8" Currie Traction-Lock redone. Had spring loaded clutches inatalled instead of the Currie Torque Sensing Differential. Now the car vibrates and chatters when going around corners. Lubricant is Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil 75-90 wt. It's supposed to be good for limited slip, but the thing does chatter around corners. Ford used to recommend a "friction modifier" for the Traction-Lock rear ends. Does anyone know exactly what that stuff is. I've thought about adding STP oil tratment or Motor Honey to the gear oil to see if that would help. If anyone has advice or comments, I'll appreciate them. Thanks.

Hey Rev,
It's nice to see you asking for advice because you always are giving good advice yourself. I was told by several people that with the traction-loc you have to add this friction modifier or you will get the chattering you are talking about. The fluid allows the plates to slip, Hope this helps.

You can get this stuff over the counter at any Ford dealer. Have no idea what the makeup of this stuff is but it works. Goes for like $8 for the bottle which is like 6 or 8 oz's. Not sure if its compatable with the synthetic gear oil, you may want to check that out first as I have only used it with coventional gear lube.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm headed down to the Ford dealer to try to get some of this stuff. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks again.

Got the friction modifier from the Ford dealer and put it in with the Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil that I already had. According to directions from my shop manual, I took the car out and ran it for awhile to get it mixed up. Then I went to the local high school stadium parking lot and ran the car in tight circles both right and left. About 10 each to work the modified gear oil into the clutches. Presto-change-o, no more chattering in corners. You couldn't tell it from an open differential. I wondered if that would hurt the performance in a straight line, so I went for a G-Tech test at my usual spot. No problem there, 2 black stripes about 20 ft. long. 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. About as good as ever. It's hard to believe that that little 4 oz. bottle of what looks like 3-in-one oil could make so much difference. But it did. Thanks again for the help.

Rev,
Glad to see you have the problem solved. FYI Currie Enterprises also sells the additive for locking Rear Ends. Part# CE-5012 priced at $5.95. Found it on their website http://www.currieenterprises.com
Look under Third Member Installation Kit.

Bill, thats G-Tech time, so who knows how really correct it is? 60 ft. time at the track is 2.1 seconds. I did put the battery in the trunk and have Al. intake and water pump. My car hooks pretty well even on BFG 235/60/15's. Spins only about 20 ft. and that's it.
