Default Transmission Rebuild

This is somewhat related to Schooner's query but not really the same. I suspect that before long I will want/need to rebuild the C4 transmission in my '67 daily driver. Not long ago I had my 302 rebuilt and am now sorry that I did not take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade the cam and do some of the things I am now trying to do to beef up my ride a bit. So, my question is, when I have my transmission rebuilt what should I consider having done in addition to just asking for a rebuild. As stated, it is a daily driver so I'm not trying to build a dragster but I do like a bit of performance. Hope this makes sense. E.

Only thing I would add is a shift kit and maybe alittle bit of convertor.

Just depends on what u intend to do with the car and how much you want to spend. There are different clutches that can be used in the clutch packs, sometimes more clutches can be added to the packs themselves.
Personally if I was doing a transmission for any stang I owned, I would do the following:
-Ask them to stuff all the (decent grade) clutches they could in the packs.
- shift kit
- tranny cooler
- temp gauge
- Quality T.C.
Remember, the number one killer of a tranny is Heat, so try to keep it as cooled down as possible.

Tranny cooler is a very good idea...

Throw in an after market oil pan that gives you a bit more volume... also be sure that you get a drain plug if you don't have one already.

What I had put in my C-4 included:
1) 3000 stall TCI converter
2) high performance clutches and bands
3) B&M shift kit
4) B&M deep finned cast aluminun pan
5) TCI trans cooler

Whether you need a 2500 or 3000 stall depends somewhat on where the power band is in your engine and your rear gear ratio.

I got the transmission itself rebuilt with the high performance clutches and bands for $500. The rest I bought from Summit and installed myself.

Hi Guy

Please Be A Little Patient With Me I'm New To All This Fixin'-up My '66 Stang.

Can You Please Explain Just What A Shift Kit Is ? Is It A High Speed Shifter That When You Shift You Do It In A Small Area?

And What In The World Is: Stuffing All The Decent Grade Clutches They Could In The Packs ? ? ?

Thanks Guy

Schooner

Schooner...

Elvis is rebuilding an automatic transmission.

You are dealing with a manual transmission...

Your main issue is getting a transmission, the right linkage, getting a clutch set up, and the flywheel machined...

His is a matter of upgrading a couple parts that you will not have... such as clutches and bands, a cooler, deep pan, torque converter, and a shift kit...

You need not worry about those things with your project.
