Default transmission shifting

I have a 66 mustang auto trans 289 was supposedly rebuilt before I got it but it doesn't seem to shift into third gear. Any know about any common problems that could cause this?

Check your linkage. That would be where I would start.

Are you placing the transmission in the "rain gear", which is the one specified by a white dot, right after neutral? Because the O gear, right before Low, is the one that is like Drive.
