Default Pinggin on acceleration?

My car pings on acceleration. Mainly when I am on the highway and I give it some gas around 35 and up mph. What could this be. My car is a carb 83' all stock. Could it be too lean? Thanks.

What's the timing set at? Yes, it could be too lean. You should inspect the plugs.

I posted pics of my plugs on this site about 2-3 weeks ago and it they look good, nice toasty brown. I am about to go and check timing at idle. It should be around 10-14(max) at idle correct?

Put the timing at 13 degrees and run Super unleaded 93 octaine.
stick with the stock size/heat plug.

what cylinder is that plug from, normally #1 and #5 run lean. What does #2 and #6 plug look like? let me know....

It was the timing. The timing was set to 26 degrees Advance or 26 BTDC. That is 16 deg. higher than the stock 10. I brought it back down and it is not pinging at all even on steep hills. Still using 87 too. Thanks for the help.
