Talking tires

Im fixing to buy some 17 in torque thrust 2's and I was wondering what is the biggest tire that you can put on the front and rear of a 69 mustang coupe?

17's will probably require alot of backspacing. I'm still unpacking so my papers are in boxes. Check out the car craft website. They did an article awhile ago about fitting big wheel into old hotrods. They gave the specs on all the old Stangs. 16's were the biggest I thought they reccommended for 69/70 But then I've been wrong before. I've got a 70 and was looking to put the Torque Thrust on too. Thats a hot wheel.

Just installed some 17x8 2003 Mach 1 rims on my 69 coupe. Rims were 5.72 backspace. I used 1" spacers all around. 235/45/17's in front 245/45/17 in rear. Kumho 711 tires. Seems like maybe I could go a little wider in the rear & still be ok. Did not have to roll the fenders with this setup. Instead of going wider with the tires, a slightly wider spacer, maybe 1.2" would work as well. Also my car is lowered 2" all around. The clearance in front is tight where the rim comes close to the upper control arm. A slightly wider spacer up front would also provide additional clearance & still fit ok with the 235/45/17 tires as far as the fender clearance. Anyway, thought this info might be of use to you or whoever. I will be happy to e-mail pictures if anyone is interested.

thanks for all the info but i found the march 2000 issue of car craft and for a 69 70 17x8 with 4.50 backspacing and the biggest tires 245 40s and for the rear 17x9 and 275 40s are the biggest you can put underneath it.
