![]() i have a 65 coupe with 200 ci. just dusted off the dust from winter and started it up. fired right up let idle for about 10 minutes or so and took it for a spin to get gas. it wouldn't start after i got gas. it would ignite but not run. finally i got it started and it idled smoothly like nothing ever happened. i had spark and getting plenty of gas in the carb. this happened towards the end of last season but thought it was a fluke. would a poorly fitting gas cap do it because it started after i took it off. soon after anyway. any thoughts or suggestions would help greatly. thanks

![]() My friend has the same problem sometimes. His old carb would flood it'self, then after it could down, would start back up. He got a new one, but it has done the same thing twice to him. We had to open the hood, and let it cool down. He has a '66 200.

![]() Sounds like vapor lock, but the weather is too cold in Pa. right now. Try duplicating the problem. If this happens all the time after it's been running for 10 minutes, try loosening the cap and see if that works, or don't loosen the cap and see if it will restart in the same amount of time. If the carb is getting plenty of fuel while this is happening, then it's not the cap or vapor lock. If you have an electric choke, that could be the problem. Everytime you turn the key off, the choke resets. That means that when you try to restart it, the choke is likely shut. You can try turning the key on for 20 seconds, then trying to start it, and see if that works when it's warmed up.
Take care, -Chris
