a friend of mine at work is selling his old t bird. he says it has a 351M and a c6 trans. he says it runs good and the only damage to the car is the front suspention. i think he says it was a 79 or something. is the 351m a good motor. iv never heard of it before. Did this also come with a 9" rear end.

They're okay for a truck, but that's about it. It's a 351 Modified, but not in a good way. It's a Cleveland 400 block with a 351W crank in it, which works out to 351ci. There are virtually no aftermarket parts for them, and they never came with a 4bbl. They were pretty much mid 70's smog motors.

Take care,
~Chris

Doesn't it have a cleavland crank? I think the mounts are diffent, and it uses a big block trans bolt pattern. Basicly a no good for anything, because theres no parts, hunk of junk!

Default the 351m

I can not remember exactly what made it a 351m, I think the whole crank thing is right though, it does have a big block bellhousing ....so a 460 will bolt right up to the tranny depending on applitcation
I have a 79 ford 3/4 four wheel drive, decent power, HORRIBLE gas milage.....can u say 460?
The only reason I am going to keep my motor after the swap, is I heard you can use the crank too make a stroker motor....maybe someone in here can help us with that.

The 400 is the crank to use. It has the same main size. Some macheining has to be done to the nose to make it work. There is aftermarket cranks are readily available and are cheaper than trying to use the factory one.

to install a 400 crank in a 351M NO machine work needs to be done as they are the same except for the stroke. the blocks use the 429/460 bellhousing, and engine mounts.
