Default What are the differences between a 6 and a 8?

I'm looking at getting a 66 coupe with a 200 straight six and a 3 speed manual. What are the differences between a straight six powered car and one packing a V-8. Brakes, suspention, rear-end.....what's different? How easy is it to convert one to V-8 power?

Your looking at everything but the frame. From the motor back is diff then a v8. Even the brakes are diff, a v8 has five lug wheels. That one has four lug. It's not too hard to swap, but your looking at money, it's easyier, and sometimes cheaper just to buy with a 8.

They have everything in kits for those cars now, so it's not hard to get whatever u need.

IMHO, if it's a V8 Mustang you want, it's a V8 Mustang you should get.

Take care,

You might want to consider coming out here to buy it then. They're a dime a dozen out here, and most have minimal rust.

Just a thought.

Take care,

I basicly summed it up above. Everything but the frame, body and interior.

Sometimes the tranny works for a 289-302. depends.

Default V-8's are plentiful

If you're really going to change out the entire driveline, wheels, brakes, suspension, and steering anyway, then it won't matter. If you plan on using any of that, then get a V-8 to begin with, It may save a few bucks. Not to mention matchig #'s, but that doesn't sound important.

Ok here's the plan. A CCM GT-40P crate motor, a T-5, and 8.8 modded to fit. So yes, I will be replacing the whole drivetrain. And yes different wheels will be added.

What size brakes does the six have compared to the V-8. Also how is the stearing different? What parts would I need to convert to 5-lug?

I can pick this car up in running condition for $1,000 bucks, maybe less. Sure V-8's maybe be plentiful in Cali, but here finding one that's not a rust bucket is kind of a challenge.

Unless you are getting a really great deal buy an 8 cylinder mustang. Don't get me wrong, the 6 cylinder is great (especially the way she accelerates), but it is alot of work to convert to an 8 cylinder. I know what is in for store for you, cause I'm there now. I got a sweet deal on my car ($740), but I plan to race her, so the 6 banger has to go. I have a long road ahead of me. Heres what you would have to do. You have to get a bigger rear end, the tranny (the 3 speed will not handle the torque of an 8 cylinder, even a 289), the front suspension even has to be changed (control arms, tie rods, etc.) If you want to convert the brakes then you might want to do Granada conversion, or you can buy a kit (granada brakes are cheaper).

I am also converting my 6cyl stang to A V8. but the only reason I am doing it is cuz this car has been in my family for six years.(I know it's not much but it means alot to me) and yes as stated before you have to change the rear end, trans, motor mounts, and the whole front supension even the stearing. to tell you the truth it doesn't seem as hard as I first thought. but then again I have not started yet. if it is the v8 you want then buy A V8. I would but my stang means alot to me. pluss I told my older sister and older brother( the previouse owners) that I would restore it and put A 8 cyl in there and of coures they didn't belive me so here I am trying to prove them wrong. but if it wasn't for any of those reasons I would just sell this stang and buy A V8.

just my 2 cents.
