What do I need to put an efi(5.0)in 68 mustang

I would like to put a efi motor in my 68 mustang. What are all the things that I need? Also is a 68 302 motor the same block as the efi 5.0 whats diff?

are you using an auto or stick trans? you will need to use the oilpan off your 68 302 and pickup tube. are you using carb or efi? on my 67 i kept the v-belt style waterpump/aternator pulleys along with old style pump. 5.0 has sepentine with reverse flow pump. i also changed the dip stick/tube to be sure it worked with old style pan so i drilled the hole in the front right side of the aluminum timing chain cover and put it there. then i plugged the hole in the left side of the block where the 5.0 stick goes. i plugged the exaust holes in the back of the 5.0 heads...where the exaust crossover tube is. us old motor mounts. i really need more info to advise you further, carb or efi and what transmission??? remeber the 302 as the 5.0 is externally balanced so be sure to us the flexplate/flywheel with the correct harmonic balancer. ive done this conversion and i can help you. you will be very pleased with the results.

hey thanks for answering me. I want to use efi not carb. I have an auto in the car now.
I would like to do this as cheap as I can.
So stick or auto which ever is cheaper if I do have to change trans.

im assuming its a c-4, im almost certain you will need to use the harmonic balancer from the old 302 with the flexplate/torque converter from the auto. i dont know if you will need to block the exaust crossover on the back of the heads, it may be part of the emissions, i dont know it the computer will need it. you will need the computer from the car you take the 5.0 from, i recomend an 87-92 motor and ones with mass air intake are even better. mass air allows mods to the engine easier than speed density. you'll also need a high pressure fuel pump like one from the 5.0 to feed the injectors, the old pump wont work. if you are using the efi, just keep the serpentine belt system along with all the pieces connected to the front of the 5.0.....im not sure how the electrical will hook up but im sure there are connectors available to hook the new style alternator into your old wiring harness. get everything you can from the donor car. the 5.0 efi will want the same fuel and electrical power as it gets in the fox chasis. i went with the carb since i only had a motor...no donor car....and it was simpler for me. good luck.

So will the motor mount up to the motor mounts in the car? Yes, it is a c-4.
Thanks for the responce

use 68 mounts, bolt them to 5.0 block.

I think Mustang Steve has a complete "how to" for an efi 5.0 swap at //members.boardhost.com/MustangSteve.

PS - www.windsor-fox.com are specialists in this & can supply retrofit harness etc.

There is also a good site at http://users.ev1.net/~gbuzek/index.htm from wiring to trannie hook up.
