I've got a '67 with a 289.
it's a bit underpowered for my taste - but I bought the car to go real fast in a straight line (all city driving). I'm planning to put a bigger engine in (check out the thread '390 vs. 289'). it's a good daily driver, though - comfortable, handles reasonably well, and looks great (I think '67s are the best looking mustangs, but that's a matter of personal taste).
a 65 or 66 with a 289 would be quicker and would handle a bit better than a 67, so they might be better for transportation cars.
ya just need to figure out what's important to you in a car and the choice will become pretty easy...

this is a delema! Eh!
I have a classic and a Mass air 5.0 GT.
they are good for different reasons,
Older ones have a good classic feel(rough) and stick out in a crowd. they are easyer to work on without an anylizer, and go up in value!!! Also think cubic inches.!
Newer 5.0, 4.6's are very streetable even with radical cams/blowers etc.. and after 30 years of refinement the 302 is at it's street racer pinical!! they wind up like a hipo 289 with a smooth Idle. I was suprised the first time I drove it. and on pump gas too!
But a 67GT500 is my favorite looking Mustang!!
Somethings to think about!!

The best thing to do is try to get with a local club or people that have different models and go for a ride. There's pros and cons to all of them, make sure you get enough power but not so much that you can't handle it.There's alot of mustangs in the junk yard from some bad decisions.
I have a 69 Sportsroof and every time I look at it I have to smile so find one that makes you smile!

This is a tough question. If your looking for a daily driver, I would recommend a late model 90-93. They are a pretty reasonable cost wise. If it is not a daily driver, a 67 is a good (I have two) year. A 289 is a solid engine that easy to work on and aftermartket support is good. Your going to have to become familiar with the common rust areas. For 67s, the cowl leaks which can destroy the floors. IMO get a car with little to no rust. Good Luck!

Thanks. You know I used to only like the 60's style but I think a newer one would be good for now. It depends on the pricing as well...

Yes 89-93 mustangs are very reasonable, and faster due to lighter weight. 87-88 don't have mass air. If you take your time looking You can get one with low miles. Get a 5.0 , don't waste your time on a four or six cylinder. you might as well buy a Probe if you do.
I like the GT Ground effects, without them I think they look like a escort.
Just my Opinion, I know it is tough decision.
