The C4 from @ 1965 untill 1970 had a small dia. input shaft. Even earlier C4's had a 5 bolt bellhousing not 6.
Finding a post 1970 C4 will work on the 88 motor. Even better, find a C6 for the small block. If your cousins car has a C4, a later model C4 will drop right into the car using the same crossmember. Leave out the FMX. Also keep the flexplate thats on the motor, "On the Motor." Just make sure the right [size] flexplate is on the motor. NO MATTER WHAT SIZE YOU NEED, THE FLEXPLATE WILL HAVE TO BE 50oz imbalance. Should be 164 tooth on the 88. Some C4 bellhousings are larger than others. The mustang II bells were the smaller type, [157] tooth. Which are great for hot rods that don't have much tunnel area to work with. 1981 and up small Fords used 50oz flexplate imbalance. Does not matter what year trans you use. The motor stays 50oz. Now im confused. |
