Nitto tire size, wheel size, etc.
What is the largest size Nitto drag radials I can run on my 90 LX? 235, 245, or ??? I still have the quad shocks and plan to keep them. And do you guys soak these in the water at the track or drive around?
Also, where can I find some cheap steel wheels to mount the Nittos on for drag racing? Should I get 15", 16" or what? I was thinking 15" would help me out with bottom end torque even though that won't be much of a problem after 3.73 gears are installed. Thanks. |

I called Discount Tire Direct about my car and they can only get the Nitto 355 Extremes in 245 for my Pony rims. I don't think Nitto makes a wider D/R for a 16" rim. The BF Goodrich D/R go's to a 255. If your going to have a set of dedicated race rims why fart around with drag radials at all, go straight to a slick. You can get a set of 15" ten holes from a pre 89 Mustang pretty cheap and you won't get better traction than that.

I can get a couple turbine rims for free but was thinking a set of black steel rims would suit me fine and may be a bit lighter. I'm trying to shave as much weight off the car as I can.
I didn't really want to go with slicks until I get a new clutch. It's on its way south I think but I don't think I will have the cash to have it replaced by the time we have our race this April. |

You could get your clutch replaced for the cost of the rims and tires your talking about. Having a dependable clutch would probably do you better than a shaky clutch and good tires. Just my .02

I was thinking that too. But it's not all that bad. It only slips after 4 or 5 really hard runs. The first time I noticed it was right after I speed shifted my way to my fastest ET and it wasn't all that bad.

Your clutch may not be bad it may just be hot. I've heard of clutches either slipping a little or locking when they get too hot, though I'm no expert. I'd bet you were doing big burnouts though.

That's what I was thinking. It only did it a couple times and both times I was really driving it harder than I should have been. But it got me my best time LOL.
