McLead Scattershield
I have been struggling with a Lakewood scattershield for 6 months now and it's so poorly produced that I have given up on trying to get it correctly aligned. I'm thinking of switching to the McLeod unit (FRPP markets it as M-6392-C). I would appreciate it if any of you that have experience with the McLeod/FRPP unit (good or bad) would share it with me........

Just put mine up last week, fit's well, but you have to grind the lip that goes around the starter side for header clearance. THe nice thing is that you don't have to buy a new bellhousing for the 3550 if you ever upgrade the trans, it can take either. The downside is they've never had it SFI approved, but I've had a couple freinds pass NMRA tech with it anyway. I haven't taken the car out yet, still working on the Battery relocation, but it went up fairly easy. If you have long tubes you'll have to take one side down and loosen the other to get the BH in though, kind of a pita.

I've got one on my Mustang. I'm using a Tremec 3550 and have BBK equal-length shortie headers w/ off road H-pipe. It fit fine. Bolted right up. No grinding at all. Sounds like long tubes may be a different story.
As Chris said, it's not SFI approved, but I've had one tech guy look at it/ask about it and said that as long as it's a nice thick steel unit, they don't have any problem with it. If I was running 10's though, he might have given me more of a hassle? E

Also, at one time the Mcleod was SFI approved. Shorty after Mcleods owner left the 'board of approvers' (for lack of the proper term) they combined some of the classes which left the minimum rpm rating at 10,000. The Mcleod was rated at 8000. The approval process is very goofy for them anyway. I will do some searching and try to find all of the facts. What I have said so far is just what I can recall from a very brief conversation about it. Andy
