Atlanta FFW
The conditions in Atlanta are pretty harsh,
mainly windy, but the track is in OK condition. Here's the major news: FFW and the NHRA Safety techs did indeed ban aftercooler tanks. There were no blown aftercooled Pro 5.0 cars, but Mike Murillo was asked to remove his aftercooler water tanks in the back of the car. Without the cooler active, Mike still ran in the 8.90's at almost 160-mph, but not enough to stop the rain of Dennis Lugo, who sits on the pole at 8.65/163 and change. In Pro 5.0, there are about 7 cars competing, including Baer, Markwich, Holman, and a few others. Les Baer didn't get a clean pass, in the first qualifying session he broke a locator in the rear suspension and swerved hard to the right and through good driving avoided a crash. Markwich is dialing in his new 400ci/Sheetmetal combination, and hasn't yet been able to put down a full pass. No 9's in Renegade yet. credit James Lawerence www.nmraracing.com Holman sets #1 Qualifier in the Brent Frazier/Gullett 400 Single Four. Gullett lends Markwich his old 381 Sheetmetal that ran 8.0's at 178 in his car. Markwich chassis is better and should go 7.80's no problem. credit BF @ nmraracing.com |
