AOD adjustments?

Is it possible to adjust my transmission/transmission chip controller(?) so my car wont shift at 5000 rpms, or do i need a shift kit of some sort?

You dont have a transmission chip controller, as u put it. You can shift manually, or get a shift kit that alters the shift points.

And what mods does your engine have? If none, or little, you wont gain anything shifting higher than 5k anyway?

You can manually shift to hold your r's up higher.
Start in "1" at rpm you want go to "d"
when it tachs up a bit down shift back to "1"
this is how you hold 2nd gear.
At rpm you want...go back to "d"
If you go to "d" and back to "1" too quick, you will shift back into "1"
And if you don't go back to "1" quick enough, you will shift into 3rd too quickly.
It takes practice and is not good on your trans, but is drag racing ever good on your trans?????

You can also adjust t.v pressure(line pressure) to make your AOD shift a little harder and quicker. ( i could chirp 2nd)
Very easy but kind of complicated to explain.
You pop off the linkage under the t.b...
Score the shaft to index it...
pop the white retainer through so the spring tension will pull it closer...look at your index mark and push retainer back in so there is about a 1/4" to 1/2" gap from your index mark.
Pop back onto t.b.
You will increase your line pressure this way.
It sounds difficult but i could do it w/ my eyes closed in 30 seconds....when i still my AOD that is

First, you want to consider CAREFULLY if you want to do the shift shuffle - very hard on the trans!!! Plain AOD's (not AOD/E's which
are electrically controlled) are very hard to modify the shift points. There is one shift kit that allows you to do that to some extent. see www.baumannengineering.com - that will give you lots of good AOD & AOD/E tech info.
AOD's can be economically upgraded some, for mildly modified engines. I just did mine myself. Just by dropping the valve body to install a shift kit, you can also then add Art Carr's "zero leak" 2-3 shift accumulator and their A overdrive servo - helps with a couple of the AOD's weak points. Also check www.lentechautomatics.com - they've got a new slant on AOD shifting & valve body design. For just a plain shift kit, you want one with "cutback elimination" like Baumann's - that eliminates the reduction in internal shift pressure for the 2-3 and 3 to od shifts, & is generally regarded as about the best shift kit for AOD's.
