I think the 98's had a slightly more aggressive computer.

Theres no way a bone stock 98 GT is running LOW LOW 14's like that. Especially if it looks like you can drive you car and launch damn good. I would gues syou can get high 13's out of your car right now. Id try ditching the chip and setting the timing yourself and gettin an adjustable FPR.
The 98gt's arent that fast... Hes got a hell of a freak if its running low 14's stock. i believe sky was referring to the 98 that runs 14.2's stone stock. 98nos stang, our cars like power adders so your times are definately possible but a 98 n/a running low 14's stock isn't going to happen. Is he the original owner? I would bet he at least has gears or something. if it is then he is truely an awesome driver! anyways the best first mods are gears (3.73-4.10's) and a H or X pipe!
I believe the 98's have a little better computer program to give them the x-tra 10hp over 96-97 models. ------------------ 96 stang,ported 99 heads, 01 bullit intake, 99 cams,Steeda power pullies,Steeda timing adj.,Kirban adj.reg.,Pro-m 87,24#inj.,Twin 57mm t/b,BBK longtube headers,Bassani x-pipe w/cats, Dynomax ultraflow catback,home depot ram air, k@n, 373's,cobra brakes,fms spings, lakewood 90/10's and 50/50's tri-ax shifter. best et 13.80 best mph 103.3 bfg street tires,bakersfield, ca |

OHH I SEE 46STANG, YEAH I THINK IT IS DAMN WEIRED TO SEE A 98 BONE STOCK RUNNING THAT LOW. ID SAY CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE, EVEN WITH A KICK A** DRIVER... THOSE CARS DIDNT COME WITH THE SAME POWER THAT THE 99-01 COME WITH AND THOSE CARS ARE RUNNING LIKE 14.70 STOCK, SO YEAH IT IS KINDA FISHY.MINE RAN LIKE 15.99 STOCK.

According to Ford, I remember when they came out, the headers have a little bit different configuration. That's the reason for the hp increase.

The heads were improved to flow a little better on the 98s compared to 96-97s. The computer is a little bit different also. Low 14s are more than possible on stock 98GTs, they are reality. A few guys over on the corral ran 14.1-14.3s bone stock. I ran 14.7 with mine, but I have 2.73s, with optional 3.27s I could have knocked off a couple of tenths. I also ran my time on HR rated tires, and had a crummy 2.2 short time in 93* temps. A few guys have run high 13s with exhaust, pulleys and timing adjusters.

Hotter programming of the computer and mid year 98'+ heads were missing the shroud next to the exaust port. (not that it helped)

Low 14's on a stock Gen I. Uh-huh. 13's with a timing adjuster. Yeah. Guess that timing adjuster is worth 50hp.
The 1998 GT was rated at 225/300. The 1996-97, which can BARELY, with an excellent driver, crack the 14 barrier was rated at 215/285. Wonder how those 98's are cutting the better portion of a full second off their 1/4's with 10 more hp and 15lb/ft more torque. Silly me, and here I though the DOHC Cobra's were quicker than the Gen I GT's? Guess the extra 80hp doesn't do them any good. I guess not only is the new GT faster than the Cobra, but the older Gen I GT is just as quick. |
