Cordova FFW Results?

I guess the Cordova event got rained out on Sunday (according to the FFW site). Were any rounds run or was the entire day a washout?

I was already headed for home on Sunday morning since I over-revved the engine on Saturday and bent every exhaust valve & pushrod. Ouch!!!

Anybody got the full scoop on Sunday?

You are correct, JC. We got in 2 rounds and the rain hit. The remaining elimination rounds will be run off at Dallas on Saturday.
Bob Kurgan was declared the winner of S/R because the remaining 3 cars will not be attending the Dallas event. See ya in Big D.

Sorry to hear about the bent valves Jeff. Thats what happens when you mill the heads too much. Just kidding! Load the car up on the trailer and bring it down and I'll help you get it back together before Texas. Give me a call and let me know what happened. Do you think changing the advance on the cam might have had anything to do with it? I put a clutch in mine, tested in the 1/8 and went 8.18 @ 83.84. Still have to check and make sure that the motor isn't the weak link. I'm running out of options. If I don't hear from you, I'll call you in a couple of days.

Actually, it was an extreme case of over-revving that bent them all. I was past the 1/8th mile (on a 7.82 660' ET) when I grabbed second gear instead of fourth. The slicks and clutch both grabbed and held, spinning the engine to well over 8500 rpm. Valves floated, pistons were kissed....you know how the rest goes. Look for photos in both MM&FF and 5.0Magazine of me holding the weirdest bent valves you've ever seen. They're just not layed over, but have a true S-shaped bend to them. I've got new on order and will hopefully have things back together and running next week.

Talk to you soon and see ya in Dallas!

Jeff, if the factory rev limiter is 6250, how can your engine have seen 8500? Do you have an Motorsport Extender on your car or what? I'm thinking this is just a rough guess. Unless you have a playback tach? Remember, the offer still stands to put your car back together. If you want to send me a plane ticket, I have this Fri. as well as Mon. off of work. I can fly up and we can have it done before Tues.

The factory rev limiter only stops you from exceeding 6250 through throttle. I was doing nearly 90 MPH when I hit the shift into second gear. The tires and clutch held, so the engine had to come up to whatever the final drive ratio yielded. It was purely mechanical (momentum), not engine driven. You'll have to see the valves to believe it. I'll bring one to Dallas.
