Best performance exhaust?
 

Hello,

I wanted to buy an exhaust and my primary concern is performance. My car is relatively stock for the most part. Should I go for 2.5" or 3"?

What is the best exhaust for performance? What is the best deal for a high performance exhaust?

Anyhoo here's my 0.02

Since your car is "mostly stock" I would stick with a 2.25 or 2.5" exhaust. Bigger isn't always better, the 3" pipes would hurt your torque and maybe your overall performance as well. Many Big block Chevys run pretty hard with 2.5" pipes on the street.

For strict high horsepower racing etc, especially with 347 or more cubes the 3" pipes will let you breathe better at high RPMS

Anyone else have any ideas about exhaust? I would like the gain the most performance for the buck (ie: no borla), and Flowmaster is too loud for me. I want my car to be a sleeper, but aggressive on WOT.

Any ideas?

MAC mufflers outflow all others (according to MAC) and are loud as hell (I've heard many sets of them, with and without off-road H-pipes)

I'm this close ' ' (haha) to buying 2.5" MAC cat-back, after months of reading, I think they'll be the best for my car now and in the future..
(mainly stock now, hopefully upto 325HP within 2 years)

BUT, if you want a quieter performance cat-back, check out Dynomax, very quiet, adds a bit of HP and torque on a stock car too..

I have an offroad H-pipe, 1 5/8" shorty headers, and Flowtech Stinger cat-back exhaust. It's about as loud as a 2001 stock GT mustang (or quiet, however you look at it). It has a nice deep, but subtle idle and has a throaty sound when you get on the gas, and it doesn't have any drone. I wanted quiet performance exhaust and was kinda dissapointed because i wanted it to be as loud as a Flowmaster 3 chamber, but it's actually quieter. This is on my '84.
