Summit is selling a unit called a Helix power tower.

This 1" spacer bolts between the throttle body and intake manifold. It is cut with grooves on the inside to swirl the air. cost 89.99 for87-93 claims 20 horse increase this doesnt seem to restrict flow like a tornado unit. does anyone out there know if this is legit, or a rip off? Thanks |

Can't confirm or deny it, but it seems unlikely to me. Just think, after going through the helix, the air spills into a plenum and then fills eight individual, long runners. Seems to me that any swirl filling effects would be long lost. I wouldn't mind seeing someone do a dyno before and after test just to see what happens, but I personally think there's better things to spend your money on. HP gains are overated 99.9% of the time in advertisements.

			 Thanks Jeff

that was my first impression of the product. The thing is, I was thinking that instead of the air being swirled all the way through the manifold, It just swirled up to the intake ports, and increased intake air speed, velocity, and therefore a slight air compression increase at the manifold intake ports, sort of like a (very) mild supercharger effect or ram air system. I searched the web for info, and couldnt really find anyone who had used one for a real opinion. Of course, there were plenty of sites selling them who were saying how they were the greatest thing ever, and consistently gave them 20+ horses. If anyone has used one and has a opinion, I would love to hear it, if it works like its advertised i would buy one tomorrow. Thanks again Jeff Last edited by ewalker302; 03-31-2002 at 02:01 PM.. |

If someone wants to give one to me, I'll bolt it on my car, strap it on our dyno, and let you know what happens. I can be contacted at (800)683-7099.

It will not help at all, most people say it just gives an annoying whistling sound. Spacers like these work on carbs and throttle bodies that have the fuel running through them too. If your tbi just gets air and then has injectors for the cyls its not gonna help. It only helps when the fuel is also runnin through it.
