Got challenged by a "Fast n Furious" car....can I win??
This kid I work with just bought a beaten '93 RX-7 with a brand new engine and when I told him I did a 12.98 @ 105 he laughed and says that his RX-7 did 12's all day stock, right from the factory. So he then challenged me to a drag race. I think I can take him. What do you think?

Some of those RX-7s were quick, but unless it's got alot of nitrous, a turbo or is supercharged he's high if he thinks he's gonna run 12's IMO. Take him to the track and laugh at him after he makes his first run, I'll guess 15's. If he's got a power adder on there, I'd think twice, but he still has to drive it. I don't know alot about the F&F cars, but I'll put my money on your car.

This film should never has been done (FAST AND FURIOUS).
Now, there is plenty of young guys that have more money spent on sticker than on the motor. They always want to challenge you untill they fall down from their clouds... at the track. Give him a chance, put a 2 inches thick wood block under your gas pedal. Play fair.... Regards, Sebastien Cote |

Tell him you'll only race him for $$$.
Didn't you say you were babying your car when you ran it? You should have a lot more than 105mph in it.

Might be close. All 93 RX7's are twin turbo AWD cars. Im not exactly sure what they run but im sure they are no slower than 13's. Good luck
Later, Nick

Ive known a few to go 14.0's and high 13's stock. IF he does a few mods to the car, like down pipe, mid pipe, catback, manual boost controller, the car could be a low 13 second car and will probably be able to beat a high 12 second mustang from a roll, mainly because of the turbos...they have great top end. However if he's stock you'll take him. good luck Dan 95 rio red cobra #2021 |

My new boss has a porsche boxter and he has been joking about running against my beet up old stang . well i offered to go for ownership and he stopped talking and started watching my car.
I popped the trunk to give a guy a boost and he was right over so i finally let him look under the hood ."Race City " is only a few blocks away so now hes going to let me take him and count it as work hours. no racing for ownership though. thats a nice little car but i dont know if i could afford the insurance. ps has this guy ever raced at the track ???

I thought you guys would get a kick out of the F&F references. I couldn't believe that flick either.....my girl actually asked me why flames weren't coming out of the tailpipes in my Stang :-)
Back to the challenge....I do know the RX-7 has a huge fart pipe on it and the previous engine was blown up (as most rotaries) so this engine is new with no mods, except the exhaust. Thanks for all the great info about what the car actually pushes out for power guys. I wasn't exactly sure myself. Regarding his racing experience, he has 0. He's never drag raced before. I offered a race for $500.00 cause frankly I don't think he's got a shot in hell, especially if I wire up the t-brake. But we'll see what he has to say on Monday becuase he says "he needs the weekend to think about it." He continued by making this statement.."I just paid 20K for this car and I'm low on dough right now" Ouch!! 20K for a 93 RX-7 with 63K miles and a "new" engine?? Wow, he was taken really bad. On top of that, the car has these hideous yellow rims and the tires are bald. Sometimes I just can't stand rich kids ;-) Thanks for the feedback guys!

Hey neighbor! Nice GT you got there. You're going to pull his RX-7 no problem. (Just be careful, the twin turbos might have had some work done to them). Race him for $100!

RX7s are no joke. While there is no way he will break into 12s stock....let along run them all day, he should be able to run 13.5s all day with solid driving and good tires.
There is no way he will run a 15, unless he is an idiot (well, maybe he will). Also, 20K isn't unheard of by any means for that car. A lot of people like the RX7s and there aren't to many of them for sale with 63K miles on them. Assuming it is in good condition, nothing 'shady' about the new engine, and those are original miles, then that car probably could have gone for more. With this all being said, I think you should have no problem with him in the 1/4, but that car (not necessarily the driver) should be given more respect than some people are giving it. Thanks, DoranW

The RX-7 is a beautiful and powefull car but
it will certainly not go above 13.00sec the way it is. I love the RX-7. Its originality come from the capability of the car to produce different colors of smoke continuously at the end of the pipes. Generally, black, white or blue or a mix of the three. This make each owner of RX-7 proud and the car so elegant. SC |
