Question NMRA Rule Book

Do you know where I can get one of these? They wouldn't be at a place like Barnes & Nobles or Books-A-Million would they? There isn't a "local" speedshop around here so I don't have that option to check there.

Do you mean NMRA (National Mustang Racer's Association) or NHRA (Nation Hot Rod Assocciation)? Both can be gotten by joining the organizations. NHRA rulebooks can also be had through local speedshops and tracks for about $10. The NHRA rulebook can be ordered directly from NHRA without actually joining NHRA by going to their website (www.nhra.com). NMRA rulebook can only be gotten by joining the organization as far as I know, however, their rules are also listed online at www.nmraracing.com.

Yes, that's what I meant. Do you think I'd be safe in just getting the NHRA rule book since NMRA pretty much goes by all those rules? I need to start familiarizing myself with the rules (roll cage, power adder, tire size, etc) for the specific class I may want to run in the future. This would also give me some direction as to how my car is built and if it complies with the rules for that class (true street).

I have never yet run my car in any major Ford event (eg, FFW), but I would like to in the future (even though I know I'd be nervous as HECK). I'm used to running at the local track, but this will be a little diff. Thanks for the info.

You'll need a NHRA or IHRA rulebook for the basic safety requirements for the host tracks. I'm pretty sure that NMRA runs at all NHRA tracks, but FFW runs at both NHRA and IHRA tracks. These rulebooks will give you the safety requirements that you'll need in order to pass safety tech. Things such as rollbars, wheel stud, helmet, fuel system, etc. If you can't pass the host track's safety tech inspection, then you can't race whether its an organized event or just a weekend bracket race.

The NHRA/IHRA rulebooks don't give information about the specific NMRA/FFW classes and their rules restrictions. You'll need to get the rules for whatever class you plan on running directly from either of the racing organizations. Both orgs have their basic rules online, but their rulebooks are the final say-so and have more information & requirements than you'll find listed online. You can check their online rules though to figure out which class you'll fit into. If you plan on racing in either organization, get their rulebook. If you don't meet their class requirements, then you don't race. Its better to be well prepared then to show up for a race weekend only to find out that you don't meet the class requirements.

Hey Jeff, I checked out the FunFord website and it helped a lot. I printed out class rules and stuff. I guess I'll just register through the site (also, since the NHRA rulebook comes with membership) or the NHRA site. Thanks again.

You won't get a NHRA rulebook by registering with Fun Ford, you'll only get a FFW rulebook. Same is true with NMRA. To get the NHRA rulebook, you'll have to get it directly from the NHRA site, local speedshop or local track. Neither the Fun Ford nor NMRA rulebooks will provide you with the detailed safety and technical requirements needed to pass the NHRA technical inspection. If you're only running 14's, then the NHRA safety specs are pretty simple, but if you're running 9's they're pretty complicated and you'll need the NHRA rulebook to become intimately familiar with them.
