What you need to do is get the car on a chassis dyno. That will tell you where you make the most hp and the most torque. Try to get your launch rpm as close to peak torque as you can, and your shift point should be 200 rpm after peak power. That will also give you the gear ratio that would be optimum for you. For example...if you cross the line 600 rpm under peak power, you might consider a gear change. There is no point in spinning the motor to the moon, if you are on the downside of the power curve.
