Question Quick question....

I took my car to the local track 2 weeks ago and ran it once down the strip. The track is a 1/8 mile, so I'm not real sure how it figures to a 1/4 mile track. Here are the numbers.
  • rt-1.025(wasn't paying attention)
    60'-2.436
    660'6.474
    ET-9.681
    MPH-79.57
given the MPH, it seems that I should be running alot faster. I had some wheel spin off the line. Tire pressure was at 20 psi, temp was 55*f, but I don't know the humidity or elevation. Does this seem right to you guys?

Well you reaction time was a little slow(make sure the ringer is "on" on your alarm clock on the dash next time). Your 60' times should be alot quicker(you did mention wheel spin though, that will definitely show that one down). Your 1/8 E.T. should put you in the mid-high 15 range. Your mph is pretty good. When you get your launch, 60's better you'll find with your mph that you'll be in the high 8's in the 1/8. With my driver, my 1/8 mile times are:
60' - 2.04
330' - 5.74
660' - 8.84
mph - 79.24
Get you car to hook up and you'll see big drops in your E.T.'s.

Here's the freaky part, my best run ever, I ran a 13.4@101, with mild wheel spin. Is my car making up that much ground in the last 1/8 mile? Whatever it is, thanks for the moral support. BTW, my average RT is about .700, I just had a very off day. Oh, and I didn't warm the tires, and I left at 1500 rpm. I guess that accounts for some of it, but man was that MPH high or what?

You can also use the mustang math on this site for 1/4 ET conversion. Just remember it assumes a lot better traction than what you got.

1) Reaction time does not affect 1/4 ET since ET clock does not start until you leave.

2) 660 ft is an 1/8 mile so the 6.47 sec must be your 330 ft ET. --9.681 sec is the elapsed time at 660 ft.

Plugging your numbers in the analyzer gives 15.1 @ 100.26 mph. Obviously you'd have a lot quicket ET with a better 60 ft time.

I am sure the 60 ft time was less than 2 sec on your 13 sec run.

'93 GT Conv.
13.35 @ 104.8 mph

Yeah, it was 1.9-something. I misplaced my time slip, and I know I'll get alot of flak for it, so I am going off of memory. My 13.4 run was last May at Rockingham. Usually, doesn't a 79+MPH trap speed on the 1/8 go with a 8.8-8.99 ET?

Cool

My N/A 97 Cobra runs 7.8 @ 88 MPH in the 1/8th mile.

Even when stock, you should be around 82-83 MPH in the 1/8th.

And yes, you will make up alot after the 1/8th mile with a DOHC. Its all top-end in these Cobra's. But, if you are geared accordingly (i.e., 4.30 or 4.56 gears) and have decent traction, you will run what I run with only minor bolt-ons.

Later, Jason

Yeah, thanks! I thought I should be somewhere in that range. Anyway, I guess I should just spend a day at the track and get more than one lowzy run in. Thanks again guys!
