The spacer will not hurt your performance but will help. Your 4 hole spacer builds torque on the bottom end by increasing the velocity at low rpms which gives you a stronger fuel signal.

An open spacer without holes will hurt you a little bit on the bottom end but it will help at high rpm. If you are running a stock or near stock motor you should always run a 4 hole spacer.

Spacers insulate the carb from heat and they also straighten out your fuel flow from the carb to the intake valve.
