Post Can I compete in TS with 3.55's?

I plan to run in the Trophy Stock class at FFW whenever I get my car finished. I was wondering if I could even compete with 3.55 gears in my rear or do I really need 3.73's to even come close?? I was also wondering how much of a chance I would stand if I first compete in TS with a gt-40 intake and gt40p heads and then decide to go into another class with a supercharger?? Would my gt-40p heads be good enough for a different class with a blower or would I have to get better heads?? Thanks for any help..

It'd be real tought to be a top contender with the 3.55's. I ran 3.55's during the '98 season and it just isn't enough gear to get the 60' times needed. I was usually 0.10-0.20 seconds slower out of the hole which put me even further behind at the big end.

I don't think the GT-40P heads would make a very good SC head. No matter how heavily you port them (not allowed in T/S BTW), you're only going to get a finite amount of flow through them. For moving massive amounts of air in a SC motor, I think you'd want to switch over to something like the GT-40X or TFS TW heads. They'll far out flow the P's, straight out of the box, and the aluminum will really dissipate the heat better.

Thanks JChambers! Getting the right gear sure is being a tough decision for me!! I know I won't go any higher than 3.73's cause I do a lot of daily driving. Yet then again if I decide later on to get a blower I think I would be happier with the 3.55's! Atleast gears aren't terribly expensive therefore allowing me to change to the other gear if needed. I think I'll just go with the 3.73's and stop thinking about it.. Sound good to you?? Thanks for your help.

Cool

When use the 3:73 gear you can lower the ratio by using a taller tire as in 28 inches
this give you almost the same ratio as 3:55.

Thumbs down

Thought I'd comment on the heads - The 'p' head is a terrible choice for a blower. Look at intake to exhaust flow percentages. Blowers like higher percentages (to scavenge the exhaust more effectively per intake flow) and the 'p's large intake but small exhaust valves promote the exact opposite of what is desired w/ supercharging.

Jeff, everyone knows that with 2 motors exactly the same, the one with cast iron heads will make a little more power over the one with aluminum heads. Even more so with a blower. You also have less chance of the head flexing and moving around. Why not try a set of the Dart Windsor's?

Maybe so on a N/A motor Joe, but start force feeding it with a blower and the aluminum heads will win hands down. The aluminum heads dissipate the heat quicker which will prevent that nasty pre-ignition once you start dumping massive amount of air & fuel into the cylinder. As someone else already pointed out, you also need a greater exhaust/intake ratio with the blower car to promote good scavenging of all that mixture. The aluminums also help the high compression motors for the same heat dissipating reasons. Same theory as going to colder plugs at higher compressions.

I was talking about running on the motor. I'm not saying that you are wrong Jeff, I'm just saying you take the aluminum heads and give me the cast iron ones, and I'll make more power. Do we have a bet?

but how much more power? the weight of the iron could almost cancel it out.. just a thought.

Cool

Hey fellas, I am not meaning to butt in but, in my case, I just swapped. My ported E7s for eldelbrocs and it slowed me down a little. The new heads are not ported. I lost 2 tenths and 1mph
