J. Chambers- have exhaust ? for you.
Typically, what exhaust systems do the trophy stock guys run? I posted this question in the Windsor forum, but was told to try in here.
Why do the rules only allow shorty headers? Is it because the factory manifolds are shorty style? Do mufflers make a difference? What about H or X pipes? ------------------ 1989 lx notch 89,000 miles bolt-ons,stock heads/cam 60'- 2.07, 8.90@78, 13.93@99 |

Sorry for the late reply, but I just returned from the Bristol event.
Only FFW knows why we're only allowed shorty headers, but it goes back to the days when the stock in Trophy Stock meant stock! Nowadays we're better off naming the class 'far from stock', but the shorty headers, factory heads and no port work are a few of the leftovers from the earlier days. Most guys seem to be running the FRPP P specific headers. A few are running equal length shorties, but they're in the minority. Most also seem to have switched to the X-pipes and some version of direct flow through mufflers like the Dynomax Race Magnum Bullets. Flowmaster 2-chambers are also pretty numerous. Tail pipes are out, dumps are the norm. The exhaust system is just one of the keys, so study hard and try to learn from others in front of you. ------------------ Jeff Chambers T/S #3 11.462 Seconds/117.43 MPH Chambers Racing Team |

Thanks for replying! How did you do in Bristol?
I just have one more question. When using 1 5/8" shorties and a 2 1/2" X-pipe, would there be a power difference between the Dynomax Race Magnums and 2ch Flowmasters? ------------------ 1989 lx notch 89,000 miles bolt-ons,stock heads/cam 60'- 2.07, 8.90@78, 13.93@99 |

Every car is different. The only way to know for sure is experimentation, preferably with a dyno. I've run both and like the Bullets better, but I don't have any proof that they make me more power. The did save me about 12 pounds though which may be a consideration to you. But there are guys with the 2-chambers that run quicker than me so that could be a consideration as well. Either way, we're not talking about mega differences in HP.
As far as Bristol goes, it was par for the course this year. We went out in the semis again. Out of eight races, we've made it to the semis five times and finals once. Unfortunately, semis don't pay the bills! ------------------ Jeff Chambers Trophy Stock #3 11.462 Seconds / 117.43 MPH Chambers Racing Team |
