Default classes in nmra

i am currently doing so reasearch on getting a new engine for my 88 mustang. i was thinking about a 351w but i have heard you cant run anything bigger than 306 or 308 in nmra classes. keep in mind im 17 and i dont have big $$ so i want to run in classes which i can afford. i would lie to run around 10's in the 1/4 so any tips or guidelines for classes on engine sizes would be greatly appreciated. thanx guys

Default 351?

Forget about the 351 if thats a factor for the class ure interested in, there are many stroker combos for a 302, such as a 347inch stroker which is close to what youre original plan was. Plus u dont have to buy all the 351 components to complete the project, use ure existing parts, such as ure water pump pulleys etc... and spend the extra money on youre heads.

if you want to run in the 10's..i'm assuming mid to high 10's, go with a stroker such as a 331 or so. You'd be good running TTC Tremec Pure Street. They run in the 10 second range.

To run in either NMRA's Pure Street or FFW's Street Warrior, you'll have to limit yourself to 310ci. S/W is currently limited to 306ci but that'll probably change before 2003. To run anything larger in N/A form you'll have to step up to Hot Street or Street Bandit, but those cars are running deep into the nines and spending nearly $20K on engines. Look to spend nearly $10K to be competitive in Pure Street or Street Warrior though.
