Default 1965 mustang driveline issues

I have a '65 mustang that was originally a V8 automatic car, but someone put a L6 and a 3 speed in it. So i am putting a 289 and a C4 back in it. But after I put the drive train in, the drive shaft is about two inches to long any ideas? a easy fix will be to shorten the drive line but i want to know what the problem is, Ya know?

I believe the 3 speed is shorter than the C4 requiring a longer driveshaft. You may need to find an original V8 driveshaft.

Are the motor and tranny mounts in the original positions for the V8? make sure you have the correct tranny crossmember for the C4 as well

yes i have got at drive shaft for a v8 c4 and a 9inch rear end that is what confuses me so much every thing is back to stock and it will not fit. like i said before the only thing that is different is the motor mount perches are from a 66 but that only moves the engine up a .25''

the nine inch rear is larger than the original 8. That could be your issue

it is a 9 inch not an 8 inch so that should work original was a 9 inch with 4.11s that is all stock so i dont know i am just going to shorten the drive line

In 65' the only cars that got the 9" were the shelbys, so jim2f is probably right.
