Default 03 SVT Cobra vs Z06 ??

I've read several articles about performance of the 03 SVT Cobra - looks like it'll take a standard vette, what's your take on taking the king Z06 vette. I know the Z06 will win top end as the Cobra has a 150mph limiter. What about in the 1/4 and on a road race course?

Lose and lose.
A ZO6 still has a lot less weight, more power, and it has IRS in the rear just like the '03 Cobra. At least with the price difference you could make that up in a big hurry in the Cobra

2003 Cobra = 390 HP & ~3500+lbs & ~$35,000
2003 Z06 = 405 HP & alot less than 3500 lbs & ~$50,000

I would have to agree that off the showroom floor, the Z06 would probably win the 1/4 mile race. I don't know enough about either car to determine a road course winner.

I think exgmguy has seen some Z06's run at his local track. I can't remember the exact times, but they were darn quick.

Of course I could find alot of uses for the extra $15,000 in savings on the Cobra...smaller pulley, a set of 4.10s, MT ET streets, full exhaust, etc.

I have seen Z06's for 44,000 and I have seen the cobras going for 40,000.

Considering most people are running low 13's in the 03' cobra. I dont think the average Z06 owner will have problems.

Even if they both have an equal driver the Z06 still wins.

Mph is the true indicator of HP and Z06's trapp 4-5mph quicker than the cobra stock vs. stock.

The Z06 is a superior car IMO,

I think it depends where you are as I have seen 2003 cobras (welll, just one) going for 36 (pretty sure it was 36...might have been 34 or 38)....

44-45 is about right for Z06s here.

Didn't they get the 03 cobra to run 11.68 with slicks and something else (like exhaust OR pulleys) in the newest MM&FF?

What do Z06s run? I don't see the handling being better than the Z06.

Thanks,
DoranW

Default 03 vs ZO6

im not sure about the zo6, but i saw an 03 cobra at the drag strip and on street tires, it ran a rusty 12.80 and that was a poor run too. i think that it could take the zo6 not by much, but it would win i think

Yes i just picked up the latest MM&FF and they got the cobra to run mid 11's with a pulley and slicks. Official Z06 killer.

Ok now you are talking modified vs. stock. Well then I guess 88GT convertibles are faster than new GT's since I out run them at the track.

Modified vs. stock that is.

Its all relative though, if the Z06 owner bolted on slicks then once again he would "probably" be ahead. But give me an '03 Cobra over a Z06 any day..!!

Straight from the factory the Z06 would win a 1/4 mile race. I've seen stock Z06 's run 12.5@ 114 and stock 03 Cobra's run 12.9 @110 on the same night. Let's remember that the Cobra is about 600 lbs more in weight. However, we seen that a pulley, exhaust mods and sticky tires can get the Cobra into the 11's.

even if the Z06 can take the 03 Cobra barely in the 1/4 - I'll keep the extra $15-20K in my pocket and either put some mods on the Cobra or buy another play toy.

Where the hell do you people keep getting this 15-20K dollar figure. The 2 cars are less than 10 thousand dollars apart.

There is one Ford dealer in my area that puts a $10K dealer cost on top of the $33K MSRP. There are other dealers that will sell you the Cobra for $33K +500. Most Chevy dealers that I've talked to won't deal on the Z06 price period, which puts the car over $50K.

I will agree if the Cobra and Z06 were close - within $10K in price I might be inclined to buy the Z06. NOT, I will stick to the mustang.

MSRP of z06 = $51,155

MRSP of Cobra =$34,xxx (Forget exactly)

That is base hardtop for both cars. I couldn't find an option listing for the z06, but there are some. Also, cars over $40k pay luxury tax on the amount over 40, so there is addtional expense there too. That's on sticker, not tax, lic. etc that would push a 39,999 Cobra over.

That's where the 15-20 number comes from.

Unless it was a 57 Fulie Bel Air, a 64 Vette Big Block (Or the Orginal Z-06...How many people know about that one??)...I wouldnt own a Chevorlet. I couldnt care less about the NewZ-06..IMO.

Havent seen a 03 Cobra at the dealerships yet, but I can tell you, here in Fayetteville you wont see a Z-06 going for less than 50,000 $.

Fastest time I've seen one turn in was a 12.7.

I'd take the Cobra anyday over the Vette.

I've seen standard vettes go for $55K. I took my father-in-law to the Saleen dealer and then to the Chev dealer (he's more of a chevy guy). The Saleen Convertable was $46,000 and the C5 was $55,000. I did not see a Z06, but would assume it would be more than a C5, otherwise who would ever buy one. I've seen one Cobra up here in Toronto, go for $46,000 Canadian which is roughly $29,000 US.

Just what I've seen.

There is only one Z06 on the lots here in Odessa and they want 46,500. They are asking 35-39 thousand for the new cobra.

I would also buy a Cobra over a Z06. But the topic was asking about stock vs stock speed.

Later,

are the z06's killer top end only? how strong are they through say 1st thru 4'th?
reason i'm askin ,theres a highschool punk in town with one, but i know hes no racer, an hes definetly no "driver". i've got a killer R/T an know how to handle my car, an while my aod sn 5.0 is no where near 1/4 mile vette killin status, what would this situation do in the 1/8th or shorter? is driver skill more potent than block size under shorter distances? like the 4.6 sn95 cobras(stock for stock) have a weaker low end torque compared to the 5.0's, but make up for it at the top...

mild mods: exhaust, victorJR intake, upper lower 70mmTB,1:72rollers,gt40heads,probe slugs, 245HTRz, 4:10s, cold air, UD pulllies,

(maybe a small shot of N20)

They are monsters, down low and up top. Not many cars can run low 12's on street tires.

From my experience, they haul @$$ throughout

If he has a C5 corvette and can drive decently (and can keep traction) it won't be pretty against a AOD 5.0 (a stall converter would help your car! or a new transmission!).

The new corvettes make 375 lbs of torque at 4400, and the Z06 makes 400 lbs at 4800.

Not to mention they are light for the amount of power they produce.

You have the stock AOD or something like the Lentech? Shift kit? The AOD kills the stangs, unless they are helped/modified.

Thanks,
DoranW
