bought nitros!!! expected 1/4 mile times???

Yeehaaa! Just ordered nitros stage 1 for my 89 lx convertable! Any idea what it will run in the 1/4 mile? Here is what I have, and here is what I have run b4; flowtech II headers, h-pipe, flowmasters, 3.73's, pulleys, b&m ripper shifter, ram air (home made). It has about 87,000 miles on it. My best 1/4 mile time is 14.2 on street tires. ANyone have this set up, or have statge 1??????? Let me know your differences in 1/4 mile times!! I cant wait to get it installed to kick my friends 98 Z28!!! Im not telling him im getting it!!! Sucker!!

thanks for replies:p

How many HP shot is the nitrous kit?

1jimmy__d 06-11-2002 06:34 AM

jimmyd

it is a 75 shot!

Also, can you hit it twice in a run?- I wouldnt think so, but just wondering.

Also, how many runs can you get out of a 10lb bottle? thanks!!!

1jimmy__d 06-11-2002 08:13 AM

come on men!!!

Any ideas how many tenths it will drop??? anyone???? Also, when should i hit it? 2nd gear, or third? I have 3.73's, so I run through the gears quick from 1st to second!! Im psyched to get out there and rag the crap out of it! Talk to me!!

Dark_5.0 06-11-2002 09:04 AM

Since you still have street tires you wont be able to hit it without excessive tire spin till about the top of second gear. You should knock off about 6-7 tenths.

If you had slicks and hit it from the line you would drop off a second.

Later.

1jimmy__d 06-11-2002 10:58 AM

That's nice! So I should hit it at the start of third. Thats when those slowmeros usually start to catch me anyways. Any idea how many runs you can use with nos??

I cant wait to kill him!!!

mysweetlx 06-11-2002 12:58 PM

Most, if not al n2o kits, I believe work at WOT only. So, no matter what gear you're in, it will kick in any time you mash your pedal to the mat.

1jimmy__d 06-11-2002 02:58 PM

ahhh it hought some had buttons you could push. is it easy to turn on and off, cause I wouldnt want it spraying every time it is punched!!!

mysweetlx 06-11-2002 03:17 PM

I'm pretty sure the windw switch is what engages the n2o at WOT, it's in the engine that is connected to the TB. Inside the car you will have 2 ways to prevent the n2o from spraying, first you can turn the valve off on the bottle, and second you wil have a n2o activation swtch to turn on or off if you do/don't want to run the juice.

Dark_5.0 06-11-2002 03:18 PM

You do not have to have it activated only at WOT. You can hook it up to a switch or a button.

Later,

Hook up a switch on your shifter, and a WOT switch.

That way you can hold down the button when you want it on. You can release it, and press it whenever you like as much as you like. :)

I would spray just after the 2nd gear shift.

i think i will have the switch installed on the shifter- can't be that expensive. Also, does anyone know where you go to fill the bottle up and the cost?

YOu can see im new at this and need a lot of information, cause im clueless when it comes to NOS- Except for the fact that I will kick a lot of people's asses on the streets!

fiveohpatrol 06-12-2002 01:24 AM

uh oh, "the slow and delerious" has struck again.
NOS is a brand name, call it NITROUS

I really think that you should stay away from it then. Nitrous is NOT something for beginners to mess with. Unless you have alot of cash in your pocket ready to give your mechanic for the broken engine parts that WILL eventually occur.

My advice to anyone is that if you are installing a power adder of any sort, you better be financially stable enough to be prepared for the consequences. I'm not saying that if you put a power adder on a car that it will definately do damage, but you need to be prepared just incase, and not be suprised when it happens.

sorry if I came off like a dick, just expressing my feelings on the subject

1jimmy__d 06-12-2002 07:16 AM

i hear ya- I am in fact planning on buying a new motor next year- i think it is the 302 GT 40 which is around 2800. I thought that it would be fun to mess around with NITROUS for a while b4 i get it. then i can put it on the new motor if i want.

I dont do any mechanical work on the car, except brakes and crap like that- I have a mechanic who works from his house garage at a very inexpensive rate! He rocks.

sn95gt19 06-12-2002 09:52 AM

ONE THING THAT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER IS THAT NITROUS IS MADE TO BE SPRAYED A 1/4 MILE AT A TIME, SO IF YOUR SPRAYING FROM CONSECUTIVE STOPLIGHTS YOULL MOST LIKELY BLOW SOMETHING. EACH TIME YOU SPRAY IT I WOULD LET IT REST FOR A LITTLE BIT (NO SPRAY) ALSO ANOTHER THING, IF YOU ADVANCED YOUR TIMING SET IT BACK TO ABOUT 11 OR 12 AND WHEN YOU DO SPRAY IT, LISTEN FOR SPARK KNOCK, DETONATION IS THE NUMBER ONE KILLER IN MOTORS. SINCE ITS ONLY A 75HP SHOT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO LEAVE YOUR TIMING ADVANCED (DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT, I HAVE NEVER SPRAYED LESS THAN 100HP) GOOD LUCK WITH THE SPRAY I PAY 3.50$ A POUND FOR NITROUS SO IT COSTS 35.00 TO FILL.

1jimmy__d 06-15-2002 08:09 PM

just got it today

What I ordered isthe NOS stage I kit. It is actually an 80 shot! I should expect .8 off the 1/4 mile, so some of my friends say. Does anyone know where I would call to get it filled up? I hope to have it installed early this week!! Anyone have a convertable with NOS???

1jimmy__d 07-11-2002 03:00 PM

It's in!

Holy Crap, NOS kicks ***. Ive only hit it twice, but damn what a difference! The first time was by myself on a straight away, just testing it out. the second was when racing a Grand National. I used it towards the end of second gear and barely stayed ahead of him. I used to lose power in third gear, but with this it just keeps going. Im going to the track next Friday, so ill let ya know the difference w/ and w/o it. Any one have the stage one on their convertable????

mysweetlx 07-11-2002 04:47 PM

So you got the shifter switch too I guess. I can't wait till I get juiced. GN's are mean, w/ your previous times and an 80 shot of the sauce, a stock to slightly modded GN will be right there w/ you.

1jimmy__d 07-13-2002 10:40 PM

it is pretty sweet. its almost like a drug, once you start, you cant stop! An eclipse pulls up next to me and wants to race today. he says ill give you a head start and then ill go! I told him he wont be able to keep up, but ok! I take off, and about a 1/2 second later he takes off. I can hear his winding(so he had a turbo in there or supervharger or something) anyways, I hit the nitrous and the dork didnt have a chance! What an ***, he and his poor girlfriend, she probably wanted me after the race! Oh well, thats what he gets for being cocky!

PS I didnt get the button on the shifter. I use the toggle. When I have it punched in second, I hit the switch for some JUICE!!!! It is sweet! If I blow something, thats fine- i am planning on getting a new motor or rebuilding next year!!! YEEEEHAAAAA!

RHamm1320 07-14-2002 01:36 AM

I agree, Nitrous is amazing. I remember the first time I put my system on, I stayed up all night doing the installation before the last race of the year (I wasn't going to hear my friend all winter long of how he was faster  ). About 5am I got everything done, I went out to the deserted highway (anyone with any sense was in bed) and hit the 'button' merging onto the freeway. I was amazed, I started spinning the tires at 50mph!

You may not get the full 8/10's you are looking for with 80hp. A general rule of thumb is you decrease your et by 0.1 seconds per every 25hp gain. There is a calculator I use you can download free to 'play' with the numbers and what ifs...

Good luck and be careful with that stuff - It can get away from you
