Talking 1969 Mach 1 with AMX transmission

This past Saturday I found and purchased a 1969 Mach 1 with a non original 351 cleveland, AMX transmisstion and 9 inch rear. The Engine and transmission I am fairly familiar with but the AMX transmission is new to me. ANY knowledge that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well Bart,
This is a FMX transmission and overall it is a good tranny. I have one in my 69 351W and it works great but if it ever goes I would change to a good C4 or AOD. The biggest drawbacks to the FMX is it's weight (the center section is made of cast steel) and it is hard to find parts and someone that knows how to fix them.

To add just a bit to what clark said, the fmx was considered the medium duty trany at the time, c4 was light, and c6 was heavy. I would agree completely with clark and if it goes replace it with the smaller lighter c4 (post 1970 model, it is stronger) or aod if you want od.

Thanks for the information and the correct acronym "FMX". You have probably saved me from a little ribbing later on.

To add alittle more. The FMX was a later Cruise-a-matic trans. The one with the "Green dot" and the "black dot".

Case is cast Iron and the tail housing is aluminum.
