Ok so, I need to be educated on these Notch/LX/GT/5.0/351 Stangs... Can some one give HP and stock ET for these cars as well as year ranges?
88 and under GT stangs have MAF system and they are faster? How fast stock? 89-93 GT are slower? 5.0 liter SN95 stang is that the same as 89-93? |
The speed density stangs were a tenth or so quicker but harder to accept big mods such as a cam or heads. They have gone 13's with just a set of gears. The mass air stangs are a tad slower stock but accept modification much better.

Okay, Unit 5302's Fox body education class is now in session.
The 1987-1988 non CA car's were equipped with S/D. The speed density systems are tuned a little rich right from the factory, and with minor tweeking (fuel pressure) most accept mild cam's, heads, and intakes without problems. From the factory the SD cars run about 2 tenths quicker in bone stock form. A 5spd 1987-1988 LX Hatch will weigh anywhere from 3050-3100 lbs. Rated at 225hp@4200/300tq@3600. I'd expect a stock SD 5.0 5spd to dyno at around 190whp, which would indicate a couple more ponies than 225 under the hood. More like 230hp. Anyway, I'd expect a bone *** totally stock 1987-1988 non CA 5.0 5spd LX Hatch to run between 13.9-14.4, depending on rear gears, (2.73's vs 3.08's) driver skill (assuming good to awesome) and the racetrack. Make no mistake Lizard, a well driven and tuned SD Fox 5.0 will give your 99GT a run for it's money stock for stock, and the SD car will pick up more hp mod for mod (small stuff vs an MAF car just cause it's tuned too rich). If this 88LX Hatch is driven to it's potential I'd expect it to be in the mid/high 13sec range. I just got a GTech today, (wet out now), I'll run my car and we'll find out what I've got with 145k on the motor. I've beaten LS1 verts, LT-1's soundly, and an Integra Type R running 3rd gear from a 50 punch when I could have used 2nd. When he came back for more, I did use 2nd and he was annihilated. If a non AOD 1988CA-1993 5.0 hardtop ran anything worse than a high 14 I'd be shocked at the driver being skilled. Well, if it wasn't all clapped out and running on 7. Hehe. As for your mighty new 4.6GT, if you were down here, I'd already be on the phone yelling "Bring it on! I'll let you see my old beat up SD Fox's taillights for free!" |
Unit, I'd be right out there waiting for you... I'm suprised though, are you saying that the all mighty Unit has never gotten an official track time for his car???
Now how do you differentiat an 87-88 to the 89-93 Stangs? And also, the reason I was sceptical about these times is every time I've raced a 5.0, there was always some mods done up ... anything from GT40 intake, to gears, and I've always been succesful,... except for one mean Cobra that ran high 12s with a naturally aspirated motor and no Nitrous and another one that had a well done 351. Didn't notice your bet Unit... |

I dont have a 4.6 ego, I own Mustangs that have the Modular, and the grand daddy 289 pushrod. I love Fox body stangs as if I owned one, but I have never seen or heard of a stock fox body LX or GT run in the high 13's or low low 14's. Hell, for that matter, I've seen tricked out 5.0's with 3:73's (manual tranny cars) do no better than high 13's. Thats kinda like the claim by the GM guys, that there show room stock Z28 can run high 12's And Lighter, isnt always better. For example, my old Stang. Its lighter than all the above, its more powerfull than all the above, has awesome wieght transfer charectoristics, but with no traction, a Dodge Caravan could beat me in a race. One Funny thing about people driving the new GT's make the cars look bad because I noticed MOST of them are afraid to take the engine to it peak power engine speeds. They shift at 5000 when the car peaks out at 5850, and optimum shift point is like 6100. I dont think either is going to walk away from one another, I think it will be pretty darn close, depending on how well the guy with the 2001 drives. ------------------ 64 1/2 Red Mustang Coupe. 289, C4, 3:1 rear gear. And to many others to list 2000 Perf Red Mustang GT. 5spd. 64 1/2 red 6cyl coupe. Auto. project car. |
Lizard King:
Here is what I ran on Kelly Charger street tires, with pullies, exhaust and 3.73 gears: 14.12 ET 98.90 mph 2.205 60ft This was at Milan Dragway, in 90* heat. The track was slimy at best. Before the gear: 14.27 Can't find the timeslip, but 60ft was real bad. BTW, the older fox 5.0 will be victorious. The added weight of the convert, and new driver/car combo, the 5.0 can't be touched. "UNIT" If I were in the same town as you, I would love to "spank" your car's rear end before I smoke pass by.
