Question What do you think the price of the 2003 SVT Cobra should be?

Now that the details on the 2003 SVT Cobra have been released and we all know what a beast this car is going to be, what do you think the price of the 2003 SVT Cobra should be? Word has it that it may be priced right along the lines fo the previous Cobra. However, what's your opinion of where you think the price should be, or will be, and why?

Well there really are 2 different prices. The sticker price, which I think will be a hair under $35K for a base coupe and the actual price. I think some dealers are going to jack the price up $10K or more.

The key will be to find a dealer that is not jacking the sticker price up and buy!

Is there an actual # of how many they will produce? I know some say they THINK only about 1000, but thats nuts. If they make as many as normal, then I wouldn't expect the dealers to jack up the prices THAT much

I'd expect to be looking at sticker prices of 32k for the coupe, 35k for the conv. then dealers jacking it up to 35k and 38k. Still a decent amount under the price of the Vette (not Z06), which is now the Cobra's closest competitor (if you wanna call it competetion with 390hp!)

I think $32,000 would be a fair price for a coupe, but a little unrealistic considering the MSRP of the 2001s + the additional changes that they made. IMO, If the prices keep going up much higher, it's going to push itself out of the pony car market (if it's not there already), and maybe even out of existence.

How much are the new Z28s/Fireturds? $32k-33k?

I don't think the '03 Cobra should be more than $5k more than that.

Last years cobra was about 32k, wasn't it? And now a s/c, and all new stuff and they are going to keep the same price? No way. I say the coupe will be 35k+, then the dealers will tack on 5k-10k. If they were smart, they'd jack up the production number and price it at $29,000, well that probaly wouldn't be too smart for them seeing they are going to get 35k+ for each of them.

I think MSRP for a 2001 Cobra was $28,000-$29,000.

i never said they would be the same price. The cobra's on the lots around here have been 28-29k for coupes and right at 32-33 for convertibles. I really dont think that they will be alot more expensive than before, but definately atleast 3k more.

Ok, I know it's the top-of-the-line Mustang, but Ford can't forget what the Mustang is all about: Great power and performance for a reasonable price.

I think the MSRP for the coupe model will be around $32,000. The unknowns are how many will Ford produce, how much hype there is surrounding all this, which leads to demand, etc, etc. This could lead to dealer markup's for "lack of availability." Who know's what that will be?

My 1991 LX Coupe with every option - except it had the "radio-delete" option was stickered at $14,700 something. This Cobra will be twice that! But, with ~400 HP is nearly double what my LX had.

An idea I was contemplating was to purchase an 01 Cobra right around the time the 03's are rolling out in order to get a good deal. Then, slap on a ProCharger, et al. and then go whip some 03 Cobra butt!

Alittle out of my price range but I don't know many 17 year olds that can afford one so I should be fine.

Thumbs down

I agree with 1BAD89. They should sell the Cobra to anybody wanting one.

This 200 here, 1000 there BS is just annoying. I would be looking at a 96-98 Cobra instead of a 94-95GT right now had the retards in Ford decided to actually produce a few. Yeah, resale stays high, and buyers stay low. The Mustang was never supposed to be an exclusive car; that's what the Saleen's, McLaren's, Cobra R's, and Shelby's were for. I mean, come on. As far as I know the Vette isn't even limited in production. GM sell more Vette's than Ford does Mustang Cobra's. Keep resale high? What a crock.

I can't see a single reason the sticker price of a new Cobra should be 18k higher, or literally double what the V6 is. Does it really cost that much more to have a 6spd vs a 5spd? How about an 8.8 with IRS vs a 7.5 solid? 4.6L S/C DOHC vs 3.8L OHV? Swap a couple interior pieces in. I'm just not seeing $18,000 difference here people.

I'm sure I could rant for a while. Will the new Cobra be nice, yes. Is it worth 35k? Not to me.

I am always looking at new cars trucks, or whatever. Knowing I will never buy a Brand new vehicle (Cause you just get ripped on new ones) I would like to seethe Cobra Coupe with a price of around 32K. I however don't think this will happen. I would love to buy a 2003 Cobra in 2005. let some sucker give full price for it, decide they dont like it for whateverstupid and ignorant reason they have and buy it for several thousand cheaper. Ford expects these things to hold resale like a house. Yeah right. What I would do for 390 warrantied horses is beyond reason and giving 32k is to. If Ford would make about 30 0r 40 thousand of these things to kep the price down maybe the average Joe could afford a Hot car like the old days. I thought when Ford came out with the Cobra R that it would be like the old days, big motor, no options, and same price as granny's Buick. Nada, didnt happen. I think the car will be way overpriced, I cant imagine what the Gt-40's will be priced at if Ford actually grows some marbles and build them.
And to be perfectly honest, I had rather have a new Marauder than I would a Cobra. I like the way they look, (I HATE nothing more in this world than the new Cobra reverse scoop hood), I think it is hideous and should be outlawed. The idea has also been mentioned about a vert Maruader with a base sticker of over 50K. No way in HEdouble hockey sticks i'm gonna give that for a car. Thats almost as much as we gave for our freakin house. granted that was 15 years ago and it has tripled in value. you see a car doin that. I dont htink so.

I went to my local SVT dealership and got the scoop on the new Cobras as they have begun ordering them. They said that they are trying very hard to keep the coupe sticker price at $35K as a base. Only options are rear spoiler, chrome wheels, and Mach1000 sound system. Tons of colors available for the new model. Unfortunately they will have $6K dealer markup here (same as what they marked the '99 and '01 up).
What really made me sick is that they are marking up the Thunderbird $10K! They were asking over $50K for the one in the showroom.

Ford has to come to the realization that the mustang is no exlcusive brand vehicle. They are going to have to charge a Market value, to do anything else is stupid. Having said that lets hope they produce enough to keep meating demand.

If you really look around, there are an aweful lot of firebird WS6's and Camaro SS's out there that need to be taught some manners, I just hope there are enough Cobra's out there to do it

There are Ford dealers here in Dallas that are overcharging more than $10K for a new T-Bird! The key will be to find a dealer that is not marking them up (and there are a few out there).

Guess I got lucky - placed an order today for a coupe at MSRP or less. The spoiler comes standard, there is a code 13K delete option for the rear spoiler. They hemmed and hawed about a market adjustment, but I started to walk out mumbling that no magazine had actually tested one, and they might suk. I did not see the Mach1000 on the option sheet, just the chrome wheels and the spoiler delete.

I think the trend is obvious. Mustang enthusiasts are sick and tired of Ford's bullshit. Pricing the car out of the reach of the loyal Mustang fans in some pathetic attempt to make the Mustang exclusive, and offering limited quantities to control resale. Here's an idea for the monkies at Ford. There is a maximum profit design to follow. Offering way less product than what is desired is NOT the way you make the most money. Damn they're stupid.

Default price of 03 cobra

I would guess under 40k to stay in line with the T-bird
