OK, but how does that differ from the 405hp z06??

langley 06-16-2002 05:10 PM

DO NOT VOTE FOR THE Z07-i made a mistake it isn't a production car-norotormotor smokes crack the car has 700rwhp and has nitrous with a 427 ci engine.other words- done the f uck out,I repeat DO NOT VOTE FOR THE Z07-it doesn't even compare to the new cobra:eek:

With equal drivers the Z06 wins by a car or two IMO.

IMO, to me this poll is kind of moot if the Z06 can out run the Cobra or not. The Cobra is not produced to compete with the Vette, but with the LS1 Camaro's which it does easily. I would think that it is the GT-40's(street legal?) job to out run the Z06. If the Cobra can take the Z06 then that would be a bonus. Based on the horsepower ratings I also agree that it would depend on the respective drivers.

Dark_5.0 06-17-2002 09:38 AM

I hate that arguement about what car was meant to compete with what.

At the track you are competing with who ever pulls up next to you.

TruBluePony 06-17-2002 11:06 AM

That may be true but the question was whether or not the stock Cobra will beat a stock Corvette. Like I said if a Cobra can take a vette then that's a bonus. Don't get me wrong if I had a Cobra then I would race a Z06 just to see if I could take him. I have a 2001 GT and I'm not going to race a Z06 just so I can get my a** smoked. My point is that the Vette has a lot more at stake by racing a Cobra. If he wins then he beat a car he should have based on their respective classification's. I do not see the point in going to the track to race cars that are going to beat you unless the guy either breaks or falls asleep. Top Fuel dragsters do not race Pro Stock do they? If you want to go to the track and line up against people that are going to hand you your a** all night then be my guest I just don't see the joy in that. I hope all you guys out there with 2003 Cobra's beat those Z06's so GM looks like a bunch of smucks. :D

Bad comparison every driver in the pro ranks is a good driver so the guy with the most HP almost always wins.

Any real mustang drag racer will tell you there is nothing more satisfying than beating an LS1 or a Vette in your inferior car  .......In my opinion if your gonna go to the track and bow down to suposedly faster cars "Just stay home!"

Run watcha brung baby!!!

7000rpmisheaven 06-17-2002 02:40 PM

Whats the fun in racing a car if you know you are going to win. If you know for sure that you should run faster than is it really a race? Alot of people have that mentality. Race win or lose to see how you stack up to a car with more hp. I guess it is easy for me. I intend to eventually have a mustang that will outrun a stock LS1 or a z06. I'm not very close to that point but racing one of these shows me how I'm doing.

TruBluePony 06-17-2002 03:11 PM

I agree with what your saying 7000rpmisheaven. The funniest thing about this is the guys on LS1.com are also talking about the same thing. Whether or not a stock Cobra can take a stock vette. That would be like a Mustang owner wondering whether he could beat a Monte Carlo SS. You damn well should be able to.My argument is if I had a vette I would get rid of it if I couldn't beat a Cobra. Look at the difference in money......are you going to pay that much more money for a car that can't beat a Cobra? Of course if you don't care about that then fine but I would. Now you guys are arguing that you can add mods to your car and beat a LS1 or Z06, which I totally agree with. I was talking about a stock to stock only. Good luck on getting your Mustang fast enough to beat a LS1, I hope your able to. And by the way Dark 5.0 there's a little thing called bracket racing which eliminates the HP advantage.

Dark_5.0 06-17-2002 03:41 PM

Oh bracket racing.......Well if you are talking bracket racing then I can smoke that Z06 in my CRX:D

302 LX Eric 06-17-2002 04:28 PM

Are there any ET's out for the 2003 Z06 yet? I think the 2003 Cobra was quoted at a 12.87 @ 110 in MM&FF.

E

Dark_5.0 06-17-2002 04:30 PM

The Z06 runs very low 12's.

302 LX Eric 06-17-2002 04:41 PM

Wow. Well, in that case, I would have to give the nod to the Z06.

E

red82gt 06-17-2002 09:13 PM

The Cobra did a bunch of 12.6's for MM&FF.
I wonder why the comparo though? The ZO6 starts at $15K(US, $25K Canadian) more than the Cobra but only has a small performance advantage due mostly to the weight difference. Chances are that if the cobra responds as well to "tweaking" as the lightning the cobra will destroy the ZO6 for about $1500 worth of mods and the vipers will be having to watch their mirrors for the new snake.
Sure it's run whatca brung but if you're wise with your dollars the cobra is my choice.

hi red, that may be true on the drag strip, but the Z06 was built to kick *** on the road course. the new cobra is too (nose) heavy to hang with a Z06 on a road course or autocross. if handling is your bag, and if you can afford it, get a c5.

regarding the original poll....
stock 2002 Z06 to stock 2003 cobra, i'd guess the Z06 would win in a drag race, drivers and conditions being equal.

the new cobra is an awesome car!!!!!!

Oldschoolpony 06-18-2002 07:13 PM

vette

2002 Z06 goes 0 to 100 to 0 in under 15 seconds and does the 1/4 mile in 12.4.

Not to shaby for a car off the showroom floor.

according to the magazines.:D

Rev 06-18-2002 07:40 PM

I'm gonna get killed 100 times over for this. 4.6 is just too puny for a good performance engine. Even with DOHC and a supercharger, European normally aspirated engines will kill them for the same price or larger? . Ford has always won by producing large displacement engines in small cars.

Why don't we do that now?
