Want a 351, eh? Go with a 351w (windsor), its a lot easier and cheaper to find parts for.

there are several companies that offer swap kits for the 351C. Kauffman products offers a kit, hooker headers has headers for it.....can't think of anything else offhand. Good luck

I say go for the cleve.. get a good 4V motor, throw a big cam, torker intake, a big double pumper (750min - 850 preferable), and some headers, and you're at 400hp. Clevelands like lots of everything - rpm, carb, compression, cam.... they respond really well. Besides, an 86 with a 351C would be something cool that's just a little different and will draw lots of attention.

If it was going to be the same level of difficulty to put either of the 351s (W or C) in a 86 I would go with the Clevo. But I think I'm safe to say that there are quite a few more conversion kits for Windsors. Not to mention you can find Windsor parts all over. You can't say the same about Clevelands. I think Clevelands do respond to mods better, like MrWesson22 said. They are just a little harder to build. Make sure you do it right!

From what I hear, the Cleveland has a much larger timing cover that causes clearance problems in a Fox body. Look into it.

Go with the Windsor!!!

I say be unique and try the cleveland. The 2 Barrel clevelands have excellent street heads that have over 2 inch valves stock, the 4 Barrel heads have ports that are about twice as large as windsor ports (i've seen it, just about messed myself). You can basically use the stock heads for a mean street machine without modifying them, rather than windsor heads where they are a bottleneck in the system without modification or replacement. The 4 barrel head cleveland would absolutely scream in your car, and the 2 barrel would also. Depending on the year head you get, you may want to mill the heads to get a higher compression ratio. I've heard the 2 barrel head clevelands make a better street machine head because they aren't as radical and have more lowend response because of slightly smaller ports and valves (i may be wrong on the valves). Those clevelands are heavy breathing engines, so with matching parts, your car would be insane. Well whatever you decide, good luck.

on the post above i meant 2 inch intake valves, not sure on the exhaust, but they're big also.

Just to follow up a little, I'm not sure about the valve size on 2V heads, but on 4V heads it's 2.19 intake, 1.71 exhaust. You can sneeze on a 4V motor and get 400hp out of it without touching the heads (stock 10.6:1 CR or close depending on year). If you want to know more about clevelands, go to www.mustangsandmore.com and post in the ford racing forum. There are a ton of classic guys that know a lot about the motors. I can also give you the AIM screen name of someone that put a 351C in an 86 if you want. The swap is NOT a problem.
