85GT Beats LS1...

Well I traded cars with a friend of mine for a few weeks, so I've been driving his 85GT. Its got a 88 motor, intake, 600 carb, full exhaust and 3.73s. The car runs really hard. I never thought stock heads could run so good. The car pulls hard from right off idle till the valves float. It ran against my cousins 68 mustang w/ heads/cam/intake etc, and beat it by about 2 cars, it goes 105mph in the 1/4....

Anyways I pulled up at a light w/ a LS1 Z28 and two guys in it. It was an A4. He got me about 3/4 of a car off the start, but I pulled back on him about a 1/4 car through first and another 1/4 car on the 1-2 shift. By the time I hit 3rd I was just a nose ahead of him and held it till 4th gear. We pulled upto the next light and he wouldn't even look over. I got on the freeway and was going slow waiting for him to catch up and go again. But he comes flying up my *** and then swerves around me at about 90mph doing a ricer fly by. I didnt even bother chasing. But I now believe a stock headed, stock cammed 5.0 can beat a LS1, cuz I did it.

It has 3.73's and full exhaust not to mention a few hundred pound weight advantage over an LS-1 with a passenger.

I am not surprised at all, not all LS-1's are low 13 second cars. Lots of them run low 14's to high 13's.

I got down to a 14.04 @95mph with my 88GT convertible @3000ft
with stock heads intake and cam.

Nice kill,

I had a passenger as well. Yeah, once we hit 3rd we were holding about dead even, but I already had him nosed out.

If it's doing 105 mph down the 1320, then it will definitely give an LS1 a run.

Damn, 105 through stock heads is good - real good. I swear, sometimes I think a good old carb setup is the way to go.

Nice. ;)

Yeah it sure is a mind blower 105 thru stock heads. The carb sure runs good, it makes me a believer, runs cold just as good as my EFI setup even.
